There are almost no cars on the island, so people get around on foot, by donkey or by boat, and life moves at a slow pace.<\/p>\n<h2>Things to do in Lamu<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Old Town walks:<\/strong> narrow lanes, carved wooden doors, mosques and Swahili houses.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dhow trips:<\/strong> sail at sunset or spend a day on the water.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shela Beach:<\/strong> a wide, quiet beach with a small village behind it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Culture:<\/strong> Swahili food, crafts and local festivals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Best time to visit<\/h2>\n<p>December to March is hot and calm, and July to October is cooler.
